Mimic bus consists of a series of electrical
symbols and designations used on the exterior of large switchgear panels
that mimic the wiring scheme within the panel. We manufacture two types
of mimic bus depending upon your application.
Those
types of bus include;
Polycarbonate/Lexan
Mimic Bus
BW Industries manufactures the majority or our mimic bus in a
more modern form utilizing 10 mil polycarbonate which can be reverse
printed with customized colors, sizes and symbols to
suit all applications. The printed bus is then backed with 3M 467
or 468 Hi Performance adhesive to allow for easy installation.
One of the major advantages in producing bus in this method is
a considerable labor savings for the installation process mainly
due to the elimination of the need to drill the panel. Once printed,
the bus can also be trimmed with a scissors or an X-acto knife to allow
seamless assembly of the mimic bus. Pictured are some examples of what
the mimic bus looks like once installed on switchgear.
Plastic
Mimic Bus
We can also manufacture the mimic bus by a more traditional means from
1/16” or 1/8” plastic. This type of mimic bus is generally
used to match existing switchgear. In the past, mimic bus was cut from
thicker plastic stock and screwed on to the panel. In some cases, when
switchgear is updated, it is necessary to match the mimic bus that is
already installed.

customers. We have the ability to customize the bus for any application,
but the pdf file will aid in visualizing some of the possibilities that
exist for the Polycarbonate/Lexan Mimic bus.
